When I was scrolling through marktplaats last week I stumbled upon a very nice deal. A fellow CX enthousiast was selling his Boomerang Comstar wheels originating from a CX500E
I like the boomerang style of those wheels but I also know that there is some modification to be done in order for these wheels to fit. As far as I know this needs to be done:
– Front fork needs to be bigger (GL500/650 forks 37mm)
– Axle needed for the front
– Rear needs to be modified to accept a disk brake
– New tyres
The difference in wheels is not too big, the stock ones are 19 inch fronts and 18 inch rears. The boomerang set is 18 inches front and rear. The stocks have a 2.15 rim width whilst the boomerang set has a 2.50 width. Hence why I need a bigger front fork.
The wheels are in very very good shape especially considering these are almost 50 years old too! When I bought the Comstars I chose to buy front and rear, the seller gave me a spare front to keep on hand. This one is available if needed.
